Sustainability

Our Commitment

As an international company, we recognize our responsibility to contribute to a more sustainable planet, and above all, to support the people behind our vanilla. Our goal is not only to trade vanilla, but to ensure that families and their children in the vanilla growing regions are fairly compensated, have access to food, clean water and education.

Supporting Local Schools

We support local education in northern Madagascar by providing schools with essential materials and resources. Our team has personally visited these schools to understand their needs and to ensure that our contributions create a meaningful and lasting impact.

UN Sustainable Development Goals

Our Approach

Ducano plays an important role in contributing to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We focus on the goals where our operations, expertise and partnerships allow us to create the greatest positive impact, both in the communities where vanilla is grown and in our operations in Sweden.

The UN SDGs provide a shared global framework for addressing economic, social and environmental challenges. For us, they highlight the link between responsible sourcing, community well-being, long-term economic growth and sustainable business practices. The goals also guide our efforts to strengthen partnerships and drive continuous improvement across our entire value chain.

These SDGs guide Ducano’s sustainability efforts:

SDG 2: Zero Hunger

Fairtrade-certified partnerships ensure fair compensation and support improved household food security.

SDG 4: Quality Education

We contribute to SDG 4 by supporting schools in northern Madagascar with essential learning materials and resources, helping children access safe and inclusive quality education.

SDG 6: Clean water and sanitation

In line with SDG 6, we are exploring initiatives for 2026 aimed at improving access to clean water in vanilla-growing communities, including the possibility of supporting local well-building projects.

SDG 8: Decent work and economic growth

Aligned with SDG 8, we support decent work and sustainable economic growth through responsible sourcing in Madagascar and transparent operations in Sweden.

Responsible Sourcing

We ensure that everyone involved in our supply chain is paid fairly and on time. All suppliers we work with are required to comply with our Code of Conduct, which outlines ethical business practices, fair labour conditions and environmental responsibility. Our standards are continuously verified through on-site visits and close, long-term collaboration with our partners in Madagascar.
